LA JOLLA, Calif. – In the first of four matches in Southern California, the Villanova University men's tennis team fell to UC San Diego, 6-1, on Thursday (Feb. 27) at the Northview Tennis Courts.
 
In doubles, Will Monahan and Justin Frattarelli fell to Zach Pellouchoud and Pelayo Rodriguez, 6-2. Then, Diogo Tinoco and Carson Lee defeated Thomas Wakefield and Kush Anand, 6-2, to claim the doubles point for the Tritons.
 
In singles, Lee defeated Cooper Gordon, 6-2, 6-3. Trey Fourticq claimed the only point of the day for the Wildcats as he took down Rodriguez, 6-4, 4-6, 10-3. In the third flight, Pellouchoud defeated Monahan, 6-1, 6-2. Robert Freedman claimed the win over Thomas Wakefield, 6-1, 6-4. Kush Anand dropped the fifth singles match to David Adamson, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-5. To round out the match and seal the 6-1 win for UC San Diego, Justin Frattarelli fell to Charles Qian, 5-7, 6-0, 10-6.
 
Up next, the Wildcats will play a pair of duals against Ball State and UC Davis on Sunday (March 2) in La Jolla, Calif. Meanwhile, several members of the team will compete in the USTA Pacific Coast Doubles Championship.
