MILWAUKEE – The Villanova University men's tennis team fell to Marquette, 5-2, on Saturday (March 22) at the Sprovieri Tennis Complex.
In doubles play,
Justin Frattarelli and
Will Monahan took down Cyrus Ahmad and Hugh Perrill in the top flight, 6-1. Although
Trey Fourticq and
Cooper Gordon fell, 6-4, in the second flight,
Kush Anand and
Thomas Wakefield needed an extra game to defeat Ivan Vazquez and Teddy Wong, 7-5, and secure the doubles point for Villanova.
In singles competition, Gordon fell to Blake Roegner in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Monahan also fell in three sets in the third flight, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Fourticq and Wakefield each fell in straight sets in the second and fourth flights, respectively. Anand dropped an eight-game set to Perrill, 8-4. At the bottom of the card, Frattarelli took down Vazquez, 8-3, bringing the final score to 5-2 in favor of Marquette.
Up next, the Wildcats will head to Bethlehem, Pa., to face Lehigh on Wednesday (March 26).
