Three Men's Lacrosse Athletes Win BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Beau Kemler, Tyler Sandoval, and Colin Michener all received honors from the BIG EAST Conference for their performances in the Wildcats' win over No. 20 Denver

NEW YORK – Three Villanova Men's Lacrosse athletes have received weekly honors for their performances in the Wildcats' 10-9 overtime win to open BIG EAST play against the No. 20 Denver Pioneers in Saturday's contest, the conference announced Monday.

Beau Kemler, Tyler Sandoval, and Colin Michener were all recognized by the conference for their roles in contributing to the team's win.

This is the second consecutive week that Villanova received three weekly awards from the conference.

Beau Kemler, who received a Weekly Honor Roll nod for the first time in his career last week, was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore scooped up ten ground balls, setting a career high, and caused three turnovers for the second straight game in the win. In a key moment in the game, with one minute remaining in the third, he stepped between two Denver attackers to force a turnover that led to Gavin Michener's goal that tied the game at six all. Kemler now leads the team in both statistics with 32 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers this season. In the month of March, Kemler forced nine turnovers and picked up 23 loose balls.

Faceoff Specialist Tyler Sandoval went 13-16 (.813%) at the center "X" and picked up six ground balls in the Wildcats' win over Denver to open conference play. The graduate student's final win to start overtime gave Villanova a crucial possession that led to the game-winning goal. His performance helped the Wildcats win the faceoff battle against Denver for only the second time since the Pioneers joined the BIG EAST in 2014. Sandoval won nine faceoffs in a row from the start of the second quarter until 1:37 left in the final frame. He set a new season best with his win rate in a single game and now holds a .632% win percentage on the year, good for eighth in the country and first in the BIG EAST.

Colin Michener totaled five points in Villanova's overtime victory to open conference play against Denver, including the game-winning goal 70 seconds into the extra period. Michener tallied another goal and three assists on the day, including one to his brother, Gavin. He notched the Wildcats' first five-point game since April 6, 2024.
