BALTIMORE, Md. - Jake Melchionni, a sophomore long-stick midfielder, was named to a 2025 Nike Lacrosse Media All-American Honorable Mention by Inside Lacrosse, the publication announced Wednesday.
He is the second Wildcat this season to receive an All-American honor, as Tyler Sandoval was named a USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention on May 8.
This is also the second season in a row that a Villanova LSM has received an All-American nod, as Stephen Zupicich earned two different honors in 2024.
After a breakout season, he also received BIG EAST Co-Specialist of the Year honors, as well as being named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. He is the first Wildcat specialist to earn this honor in program history.
During the season, Melchionni set the Villanova record for goals by a defender in a season with eight on just 16 shots, while causing 24 turnovers and scooping up 49 ground balls. The 24 forced turnovers are tied for the eighth most in a season in VU program history
The New Jersey native picked up at least two ground balls and caused a turnover in 13 of 15 games during the year. He also earned two BIG EAST Weekly awards, as well as being named to the USILA Team of the Week for the week of April 14 after causing three turnovers and grabbing seven ground balls.
Melchionni recorded 1.71 caused turnovers per game on the season, leading the BIG EAST and ranking 17th in the nation as of the end of the NCAA First Round.
He joins his grandfather, Bill '66, who competed in Men's Basketball for Villanova who also earned a national honor of this caliber.
