FH Hosts Rival UConn and #1 Northwestern This Weekend

'Cats Battle Huskies Friday And Defending Champs Sunday

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Villanova University field hockey team will host BIG EAST rival UConn at home Friday (Sept. 19) in their BIG EAST opener at 3:00 p.m. Then they will take on the defending champions #1 Northwestern at home Sunday (Sept. 21) at 12:00 p.m.

The 'Cats are coming off a busy weekend where they hosted La Salle and traveled to Hofstra. VU delivered a dominant shut out win in front of their home crowd against the Explorers. The freshman duo of Aimee Largoza and Sophie Volkel played a key part in the win. Volkel picked up her first career win and shut out in first career start. Aimee Largoza tallied one of the three goals for the Wildcats, making it their first career goal for the freshman. The 'Cats dropped their last outing at Hofstra, 2-1 in overtime.

UConn, who is the defending BIG EAST champions, has started the 2025 campaign with a 2-3 record. The Huskies two wins on the year came against New Hampshire and Brown. Their three losses have come against nationally ranked teams. #9 Saint Joseph's, #18 Rutgers, and their last game was a loss to #8 Harvard.

#1 Northwestern, who are the defending national champions, have gotten off to a hot start to follow up their title. The Wildcats have only give up two goals in the six game they have played this season. Their win have come over Richmond, VCU, #5 Duke, #8 Boston College, Louisville, and #20 Miami (OH). Villanova has split the two games all time against Northwestern.
