SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Villanova volleyball closed the opening weekend of conference play with a sweep, taking down the Seton Hall Pirates in straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-9) at Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday.
Abby Harrell contributed her third straight double-digit kill effort for Villanova (11-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) with 10 terminations, making it all but one outing this year where she hasn't reached the mark.
Taylor Lewis and Cat Young added eight kills each on hitting above .350 with Campbell McKinnon contributing five kills and a match-high six blocks in addition to Alyssa Nelson posting a game-best 16 assists.
Annika Veurink and Emma Vu each earned run in the third stanza for the 'Cats with Veurink contributing her eighth career kill while Vu added six assists.
"A 2-0 record on the road is a good weekend," head coach Josh Steinbach said. "I'm happy with how we blocked and defended all weekend. We have to keep pushing to be better."
Villanova dominated the Pirates in nearly every category, totaling 17 more kills, six more blocks and hitting nearly .400 better late on Saturday afternoon.
It was a mostly even first frame with the sides being tied up through 10-all, at which point Villanova took three straight and wrested control before a 4-0 run gave the 'Cats all they needed for a 25-19 victory in the opener.
Period two was closer for even longer as Seton Hall managed to tie it at 14 apiece, but the Wildcats took six of the next seven and kept the momentum the rest of the set on the way to a 25-20 win.
The Wildcats got out to a 5-0 lead in the third and later stormed their way to an 11-point advantage with seven in a row, cruising to a 25-9 win for a sweep.
Villanova advances its all-time edge over Seton Hall to 47-20, including wins in 11 of the last 13 bouts opposite the Pirates.
UP NEXT: The Wildcats will return home next weekend for the first time in nearly a month, preparing to post Butler and Xavier for a pair of BIG EAST battles.
