NEW YORK -- Villanova volleyball picked up its third conference major weekly award of the season on Monday as middle blocker
Reagan McGivern earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week following a 2-0 opening weekend.
The accolade marks the first VU Freshman of the Week since
Alyssa Nelson in October of 2024 and makes McGivern the third Wildcat on the current roster with a FOTW nod (Nelson and
Abby Harrell).
McGivern dominated at the net for the Wildcats over the weekend, powering the 'Cats to a pair of victories with a BIG EAST second-best 12 total blocks in league play in addition to 13 kills at a conference-best .455 clip.
The first-year middle blocker posted a team season-high in blocks with a match-best nine at St. John's, adding eight kills on a game-high .333 hitting. The Kansas native put up five kills at a .714 percentage in the Saturday sweep of Seton Hall and added three rejections.
McGivern and the Wildcats will continue BIG EAST play this weekend, welcoming Butler and Xavier to the Jake Nevin Field House on Friday and Saturday for the first home action in nearly a month.
