HAMILTON, N.Y. — For the seventh consecutive season, the Villanova men's golf team will begin its fall slate of tournaments at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial hosted by Colgate at the Seven Oaks Golf Course Sept. 6-7.
The Wildcats had a stellar finish at last year's Alex Lagowitz Memorial, finishing fourth out of 15 universities.
The Event
A two-day event, the Alex Lagowitz Memorial is 54 holes — 36 Saturday, 18 Sunday — and will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m. both days.
The Course
Seven Oaks is a public, 18-hole course that was opened in 1965. It is 7,125 yards long with a par of 72. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. during the 1930s and hosted the 1977 NCAA National Tournament, the central New York stop on the 1990 Ben Hogan Tour (now known as the Korn Ferry Tour) and the 2010 Patriot League Championship.
The course was ranked No. 8 on the list of Top Collegiate Golf Courses by NBC Sports GolfPass in January 2024.
Wildcats Lineup
Villanova head coach
James Wilkes' first lineup of the season consists of four returners and two newcomers to the team.
In the first spot is senior
Matt Zerfass, who is coming to his second season with the Wildcats. Zerfass averaged a 75.60 in his first campaign at VU and is looking to build upon last season.
Hitting second off the tee is two-time Second Team BIG EAST selection and reigning individual Alex Lagowitz Memorial champion,
Ryan Pamer. Pamer is coming off one of the most successful seasons in Wildcats history, recording two individual wins on the season.
Sophomore
Vibhav Alokam follows. Alokam is coming into his second season after a successful freshman campaign last season which saw the Michigan native shoot an average of 74.40.
The first newcomer in the lineup is freshman
Luke Leonard, who begins his collegiate career teeing off fourth. Leonard brings in a golf heritage as his father, Justin Leonard, played for the University of Texas and is currently on the PGA Tour.
Graduate
Brockton English holds the fifth spot as he begins his VU career after transferring across town from Drexel. English was a regular in the lineup for three years with the Dragons.
Senior
Joshua Lavely rounds out the lineup. Lavely enters his fourth season with the Wildcats, where he has shot an average of 77.52.
