PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Villanova volleyball (5-0) has a quick turnaround after a weekend home tournament, traveling downtown on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Temple Owls at 4 p.m. from McGonigle Hall.
VILLANOVA CLASSIC VICTORS
Three reigning conference champions came into the Jake Nevin Field House as visitors last weekend, but all three left with an L after encountering the Wildcats. It was a big time 3-0 weekend for the 'Cats to move to their first 5-0 record since 2009, dispatching Yale in five sets and both Fairfield and High Point in four frames. Campbell McKinnon was named the Villanova Classic MVP and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after a sensational weekend of 49 kills on .580 hitting while Abby Harrell and Cat Young each picked up All-Tournament accolades with their performances.
'CATS IN THE NATIONAL STATS
The Wildcat offense has been dynamite in the early goings of 2025, ranking in the nation's top five for hitting percentage (fifth, .335), kills per set (fourth, 15.10) and assists per set (fourth, 14.10). Villanova has four hitters with more than 40 kills already, including three above the 60 threshold, while both setters have eclipsed the 125 helper mark. Harrell and McKinnon are each in the nation's top 100 for points and points per set, both racking up more than 90 scores on the season already while McKinnon owns the third best hitting percentage in the country.
TELLING YOU ABOUT TEMPLE
- The Owls come into the midweek battle at 4-2 overall as winners of their last four, taking down George Washington, NC Central and Georgetown last weekend to follow a 1-2 opening weekend.
- Temple, who is holding opponents to .147 hitting for a top-50 mark in the country, is led by Georgia Tech transfer Leia Harper at 49 kills and returns both All-AAC Freshman Team member Christiana Greene (46 kills, 16 blocks) and setter Lexi Yoza, the team's leader in assists, aces and digs.
- TU head coach Linda Hampton-Keith is in her fourth season with the Owls, a program that has historically gone 29-22 opposite the Wildcats. Villanova has won the last five matchups in the series, including a 3-0 sweep last year to advance the win streak and make it nearly 10 years since a loss to Temple (2016).
