WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Villanova women's tennis team will stay on the road this weekend as they compete in a doubleheader. The 'Cats will travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on Sacred Heart at 12 pm and Army at 3 pm on Saturday, January 23.
Villanova comes into the doubleheader after falling to Penn State and Penn in their first two matches to start the spring season. The 'Cats dropped both matches on the road, falling to the Nittany Lions 7-0, then dropping their next match to the Quakers 4-0.
Sacred Heart will begin the season this weekend as they square off with Army before they battle Villanova. The Pioneers finished the 2025 season with a 5-12 record overall while going 2-6 in the MAAC. Sacred Heart finished the season on a three-match losing streak and have not played Villanova in recent history. Mike Guastelle is the head coach of the women's tennis team in now his 30
th year as a member of the Sacred Heart athletic staff.
Army has begun the season with a 0-2 record. Their first two matches have come on the road against Dartmouth and Boston College. Where they fell to the Big Green and Golden Eagles in both matches by a score of 5-2. The women made it all the way to the Patriot League Championship match where they fell to Boston University by a score of 4-2. The Black Knights are 3-0 all time against the 'Cats. The teams last met a year ago where Army bested Villanova 4-1 on their home court.
