VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova water polo team fell twice at the Bruno Classic in Providence, R.I. Saturday.
The 'Cats (1-2) started the day with a 10- 2 loss to No. 7 Indiana (3-0) before a 14-5 loss to No. 22 Brown rounded out the weekend in the afternoon.
A defensive first half saw the Hoosiers take a 4-1 lead into the break.
Layla Canales scored the only goal for VU in the first quarter.
Gracin Kerry played all four quarters and picked up 12 saves on the day.
Canales scored again in the second half as Indiana netted six more goals to bring its tally to 10 on the day.
Against the Bears (2-1), Villanova stuck around early, bringing in a 6-3 deficit to halftime.
Kerry was once again in goal and saved 10 attempts.
Anna Painter, Tessa Petitt and
Ella Mattocks each scored goals in the first half for the 'Cats.
Brown scored three unanswered goals to pull away in the third quarter. The Bears netted four more in the contest in the final period.
Pettit picked up her second goal of the game in the fourth quarter to bring her total to four on the season.
Emmie Mallory scored her fifth goal of the season in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score of 14-5.
