VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova women's tennis team returns home this weekend to host Colgate at the Villanova Tennis Complex on Saturday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Villanova enters the matchup after splitting a pair of contests last weekend against Bucknell and Navy. The Wildcats opened the weekend with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Bucknell. VU secured the doubles point to set the tone, as the duos of Callahan/Gehrig and Stevens/Monti each earned wins. Singles' play proved to be tightly contested, with Villanova claiming three victories. Miriam Gondorova and Lauren Monti both delivered key singles wins, while Maggie Gehrig sealed the team win with a thrilling three-set clincher.
On Sunday, the Wildcats fell 6-1 on the road to Navy. Alina Kornyeva accounted for Villanova's lone point, earning a straight-sets victory in singles play.
Colgate enters Saturday's contest with a 1-4 record after dropping its most recent match to Niagara. The Raiders' lone win this season came in a 4-1 road victory over Siena. Their other setbacks have come against Boston University, Saint Francis, and Duquesne. Colgate is coming off a 12-11 campaign last year, including a 3-5 mark in Patriot League play.
