PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Villanova women's tennis team will head to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on in state rival Temple on Sunday, March 29, at 12:00 p.m.
Villanova is coming off a dominant win in their last outing against Rider, cruising to a 6-1 victory on their home courts to grab their tenth win on the season.
The Wildcats will look to carry momentum into their upcoming match after a dominant all-around performance in their last outing. Villanova set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches, with strong pairings across the lineup. Emi Callahan and Maggie Gehrig led the way at the top spot, while Lauren Monti and Jenna Stevens delivered a matching performance at No. 2. Olivia Corcoran and Miriam Gondorova capped the sweep with an impressive showing at No. 3.
Villanova carried that energy into singles play, where the depth of the lineup was on full display. Olivia Corcoran and Maggie Gehrig controlled the top of the order with decisive straight-set victories, while Miriam Gondorova and Alina Kornyeva added strong wins in the middle of the lineup. Lauren Monti highlighted the performance with a dominant showing at No. 5.
Temple is currently sitting at 7-6 on the season after defeating Saint Joseph's 5-2 last Wednesday. The Owls have also defeated Cleaveland State, Bucknell, Lehigh, Morgan State, North Carolina A&T, and Norfolk State. Last season when the two teams meant, Villanova won a close 4-3 battle at home.
