VILLANOVA, Pa. — Villanova wrapped up a competitive weekend of action at the Villanova and Delaware Invitational, taking part in matches across singles and doubles play on Friday and Saturday. Sunday's slate of matches were canceled due to weather. 

The Wildcats opened Friday in singles matches against Temple and Syracuse, where it was junior Olivia Corcoran who picked up the win, 6-3 and 7-6, over Syracuse's Olivia Cela. She was joined by sophomore Alina Korneva who picked up the win over Temple's Aditi Vaidya, 6-2 and 6-4. 

In doubles action, the 'Cats duos picked up three wins out of their five matches. Villanova's Bella De Luise and Miriam Gondorova combined for a win over Syracuse's Oliva Olivia Cela and Haram Kim, 6-2. VU then picked up two wins over a pair of Temple duos. First Anne Moody and Olivia Corcoran picked up the 7-5 win over Yasmin Costa and Martyna Mackiewicez while Jenna Stevens and Alina Kornyeva picked up the 6-4 win over Tessa Antonis and Sofia Becerra Morrin. 

Following the opening day action, Villanova tallied three singles wins on Saturday. Bella De Luise got the action started against Johns Hopkins, Jasmine Nguyen. The junior picked up the gritty win 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 for her first win of the weekend. Fellow junior Oliva Kutlova also picked up the three set win; 6-0, 0-6, 1-0, over Johns Hopkins' Jacie Cueng. 

Graduate student Anne Moody joined the pair of juniors with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Johns Hopkins' Sophia Kim. Finally, sophomore Alina Kornyeva picked up her second singles win of the weekend with a win over Johns Hopkins' Sahana Sanjeev. Additionally, in doubles action it was Kornyeva teaming with Riley Cicero to pick up the win over Johns Hopkins' Cueng & Zhou, 6-1. 

Up Next: Villanova will look to carry this momentum into next weekend when they compete at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md., beginning Friday, September 25 and running through the 27th.
