VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova women's tennis team will continue its fall season with the Blue and Gold Invitational this weekend hosted by Navy. The invitational will begin on Friday, September 25 and continue through Sunday the 27th. 

The event will feature several teams in a player-to-player contests format instead of a team-to-team scoring. The teams include Navy, North Carolina Wilmington, William & Mary, George Washington, Howard, St. John's, Richmond and Villanova. 

This past weekend, VU competed in the Villanova/Delaware Invitational #1 across several locations in the greater Philadelphia area. The 'Cats came away with several wins across the two days before the final day was canceled due to weather. 

In singles action, junior Olivia Corcoran picked up the 6-3 and 7-6 win over Syracuse while Alina Kornyeva collected the 6-2 and 6-4 win on Friday. Kornyeva followed that up on Saturday with another win, 6-3 and 6-4. The Wildcats then tallied three more wins on Saturday with Bella De Luise, Anne Moody and Olivia Kutlova each securing victories. De Luise came out victorious over Johns Hopkins in a three-set battle, Kutlova also had to go through a three-set contest but came out on top while Moody only needed two sets to take down Johns Hopkins. 

As for doubles action, the 'Cats had three of its pairs win in Friday's opener. Bella De Luise and Miriam Gondorova combined for the win over Syracuse, 6-2. Anne Moody and Olivia Corcoran picked up the 7-5 win while Jenna Stevens and Alina Kornyeva rounded out the trio with a 6-4 win. On Saturday, Kornyeva and Riley Cicero picked up the lone doubles win for VU, 6-1.
