VILLANOVA, Pa. – With September starting up, the Wildcats had nine competitions across six sports last week. Golf teed off their season in Hamilton, N.Y., and shared the road trip with volleyball, who competed in the Colgate Volleyball Classic. Football won their first game as a member of the Patriot League, blocking a field goal late in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory. Field Hockey continued their strong start to the season by scoring 10 goals in their home opener, one short of the program record. Both men's and women's soccer earned 1-0 victories at home as their only match of the week. Field Hockey
Aimee Largoza
Sophomore, Forward, Downingtown, Pa.
 
Largoza had a career day in Villanova's dominant home opener win against New Haven. She scored a career high two goals and added one assist, tallying a career high five points. She was one of the catalysts in the scoring barrage, scoring Villanova's second goal in the first three minutes of the game. Her second goal came at the end of the fourth quarter, as she netted the eighth Wildcat goal of the game. Her lone assist came in the third quarter off Katharina Balks' first career goal.
 
Football
Omari Bursey
Sophomore, Linebacker, Broomfield, Colo.
 
Bursey continued his hot start to the season, winning both the FCS and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week awards. He once again totaled double digit tackles, bringing down the ball carrier 14 times. He had eight solo stops, one being a tackle for loss.
 
 
Golf
Evan Rohde
Sophomore, Houston, Texas
 
In his collegiate debut, Rohde was Villanova's top placing athlete. He tied for third overall totaling 212 strokes, shooting four under par. After shooting 74 (+2) in the first round, he found his stride and shot 69 (-3) in each of the final two rounds of the tournament. His third round score was the second best in the field on the day. 
 
Men's Soccer
Alex Yagudayev
Junior, Goalkeeper, Brooklyn, N.Y.
 
Yagudayev locked down the net in Villanova's shutout win over Fordham. He faced a whopping 43 shots, saving all 13 that were on goal. That number was a new career high for the keeper, and one shy of the program record. 11 of his saves occurred in the second half while defending his team's small lead. In one sequence late in the second half, Yagudayev turned away a pair of point blank shots from the Rams and saw a teammate save another that he couldn't reach, solidifying the victory. 
 
Women's Soccer
Avrie Nelsen
Sophomore, Forward, Dix Hills, N.Y.
 
Nelsen continued her scoring tear with the lone goal in Villanova's 1-0 win over Penn. This was the third game in a row with a goal, recording at least one point in each of the last four games. Her score came in the 77^th minute, where she received a pass from Isabelle Chukwu in the box and sent it to the back of the net.
 
Volleyball
Alyssa Nelson
Junior, Setter, Wildwood, Mo.
 
Nelson was a key piece of Villanova's two wins at the Colgate Volleyball Classic. She led the Wildcats in both assists and digs in each of the three games they played. Her unselfish play helped power the 'Cats over Princeton and Colgate, as she assisted 29 kills against the Tigers and 39 against the Raiders. Her defense was stellar as well, tallying 31 digs in the three contests combined. She also contributed offensively, recording two kills and three aces. Her stat-filled weekend was enough to earn an all-tournament nod.
