VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova junior forward Jason Fraser (Amityville, N.Y./Amityville High School) underwent successful surgery today on his right hand. This is the second procedure performed on the hand by noted specialist Dr. Randall Kulp. Fraser was injured in a game at Providence on Jan. 11 and a pin was inserted into the hand in surgery to help repair a break in the navicular bone on Jan. 14.
"The surgery on Jason went very well," stated Dr. Kulp. "We grafted bone from another part of Jason's wrist into the area that wasn't healing. We also tightened the screw that was inserted during the surgery in January. The wrist has an excellent chance of healing."
Fraser missed four regular season games with the injury before returning to the lineup with the hand wrapped. The wrapping remained in place for the balance of the 2004-05 campaign. Kulp anticipates a 6-8 week recovery period from Friday's surgery.
"This is a minor setback for Jason," stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "His wrist will heal completely. There is no one that will handle this situation better than Jason."
