Baltimore, Md. - Sophomores Scott Fahrendorf (Reno, Nev.) and Charlie Farmer (Newport Beach, Calif.) won at no. 1 doubles, but Villanova (7-14) lost 0-7 to the Retrievers of UMBC (9-10) to end the 2006 season.
Fahrendorf and Farmer defeated Dave Jackson and Fernanado Ferreira 8-6 at the first doubles slot. UMBC swept the singles and won at nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take the doubles point.
Fahrendorf saw his no. 3 singles match go into three sets but couldn't come away with the win. He and Irfan Shamasdin split the first two sets, Fahrendorf winning the first 6-2 and Shamasdin the second 6-4 before UMBC won the tiebreak. Freshman Brian Maher (Dallas, Tex.) had the same thing occur in his no. 2 singles match. He won the first set 6-4 over Nick Savage-Pollock. But Savage-Pollock came back to win the second 6-2 to force a tie-break, which he won.
