VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova men's and women's track and field squad is set for the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships beginning Wednesday, June 10 in Fayetteville, Ark.
For the men, senior Sean Tully will compete in the 800m after claiming the title at the East Region Championships. The first round is at 5:45 p.m. on June 10.
Sophomore Matt Gibney will run the 1,500m beginning in the semifinals set for 8:10 p.m. on June 11. Gibney was second in the east region two weeks ago.
Sophomore Sarah Morrison will be the first Wildcat female to take the track as she will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase with the semifinals to begin on June 10 at 7:50 p.m. At the east regional Morrison crossed the finish line in seventh place.
Also on June 10, senior Frances Koons and sophomore Amanda Marino will run the 5,000m in the semifinals at 8:40 p.m. Koons and Marino were automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championships as they finished second and fourth respectively at the NCAA East Regional.
Senior Ellen Dougherty and sophomore Sheila Reid will make their first appearance on the track on June 11 in the semi finals of the 1,500m that will begin at 7:55 p.m. Dougherty finished seventh at regionals, while Reid came in 12th after a hard fall to the track.
