FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Villanova men's golf team concluded their competition at the annual McLaughlin Invitational hosted by St. John's University this past weekend in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Wildcats finished 12th out of 18 teams in the head-to-head matchup after putting together team rounds of 289, 293 and 293, good for a total team score of 875.
Junior Brendan Kelly (Annapolis, Md.) put together another stellar performance as he finished the weekend tied for 34th place after recording rounds of 73, 76 and 68, respectively. Sophomore Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) wasn't far behind as he tied for 38th place with rounds of 71, 72 and 75 for a two-day total of 218. He was also the only Villanova player to tally an eagle for the weekend.
Sophomore Bret McGaughey (Laguna Beach, Calif.), junior Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and freshman Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) rounded out the Villanova roster by finishing in 49th, 64th and 78th place.
Coastal Carolina, UNC Wilmington, Towson and Johnson & Wales were the top four teams that conquered the notoriously difficult Bethpage Red course. Harvard and host institution St. John's both tied for 5th place.
The golf team travels to warmer climate this weekend as they participate in the Sea Trails Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Elon University in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Competition is scheduled for September 25th, 26th and 27th.
