West Long Branch, N.J. - After posting back-to-back victories in its last two matches, the Villanova men's tennis team (2-13) traveled to West Long Branch, N.J. where Monmouth (7-6) defeated the Wildcats 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Outdoor Tennis Complex in West Long Branch, N.J.
Kelly Donaldson (Broomfield, Colo.) and Thomas O'Brien (Branford, Conn.) tied the doubles series at 1-1 when they knocked off Victor Pugliese and Christian Vieira, 8-4, at the No. 1 slot. However, Monmouth claimed a one point lead shortly after as Michael Rosengren (Sharon, Mass.) and Matt Colonnese (Marietta, Ga.) fell 8-4 to Przemyslaw Filipek and Bee Kumthonkittikul at the No. 3 flight.
The Hawks went on to sweep each singles flight to clinch their third shutout of the season.
Pugliese made it seven wins for Monmouth after he took down O'Brien, 6-4, 6-0 at the top singles position.
The Wildcats will return home on Sunday when they are set to take on old foe Connecticut (6-9) as part of Villanova Athletics Student-Athletes Week sponsored by SAAC. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
