Jan. 10, 2015 NC State at Villanova Results
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova men's swimming team (0-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) dropped its dual event with the No. 17 NC State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon from the Villanova Swim Complex by the final of 170-85.
The men finished second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:27.25 put in by sophomore Mike Rodriguez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), senior Chris Tamanini (Kingston Twp., Pa./Dallas), freshman Joe Moleski (Tucson, Ariz./Bishop Guertin) and senior Jason Moyer (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh).
Senior Tony Sipala (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) finished second (2:16.11) while freshman Jake Hoin (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) came in third (2:19.30) for the 200 breaststroke.
Hoin also earned third in the 2:02.92 for the 200 butterfly event.
After NC State had secured the victory against the Wildcats, sophomore Greg Cino (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro), junior Pat Sullivan (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) and freshman John Paul Naughton (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) finished first through third in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:00.81, 5:10.37 and 5:10.48, respectively.
In the 100 butterfly, with the Wolfpack racing exhibition, junior Murphy Smith (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) finished first at 55.08 while junior Nikolai Tchobanov (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster High School) and freshman Logan Ziegler (Mechanicsville, Va./Maggie L. Walker) finished second and third with times of 55.57 and 55.94.
In the 200 IM, freshman Tyler Nussbaum (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Chaminade) clocked a time of 2:05.94 for first. Junior Ryan Murtha (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College High School) came in second at 2:06.03. Tchobanov earned third at 2:08.27.
The men race again tomorrow, Sun., Jan. 11 at the Villanova Swim Complex against the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The dual meet will start at noon ET.
