Wildcats Give Back on MLK Day of Service

Jan. 22, 2015 Villanova, Pa. -

On Monday January 19, members of various Villanova athletic teams spent the day in service by participating in the "Let's Move" campaign on campus. This year marked the eighth year that Villanova student-athletes participated in this day of service and volunteering in honor of the late Martin Luther King Jr.

"At Villanova, we call Martin Luther King Day a `day-on' not a `day-off," said Student Services Coordinator Allison Venella. "This service day and helping to host the "Let's Move" camps have quickly become a wonderful annual tradition for our teams to participate in."

The MLK Day of Service Committee arranged for students from various schools in Philadelphia to come on to campus for the day and engage in healthy activities. Members of various Villanova teams including: women's and men's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's track and field, women's basketball and cheerleading participated alongside other groups on campus to host camps for the children throughout the day.

In support of the broader, healthy lifestyle initiative, Villanova student-athletes demonstrated different skills from their sport and planned fun activities with their group of campers. The campers were treated to a healthy lunch on campus along with nutrition and healthy living information.
