Villanova head coach Andy Talleyââ'¬Â¦
Opening statement: Today was exactly what I thought it would be, a real tough defensive battle since [Villanova and Maine] are sort of mirror images of each other right now. The offenses are struggling a little bit and the defense is playing terrific. I thought [Maine] played real tough, hard-nosed defense. We needed a great game from Zach [Bednarczyk] and he have it to us. He played great, he ran the ball, and never got us in trouble and did what he had to do. On defense, what can you say; I just think this defense right now is as good as there is in FCS football. If we can keep growing offensively and support them a little bit more, who knows. I was very pleased today. We had a couple turnovers we were able to get and we did not turn the ball over. Gary Underwood ran the ball hard, Zach ran the ball hard, and we had one big play from Aaron Wells. I think we put together the package that we needed to. Unfortunately our field goal misses are just causing us to go for it on fourth down, so it is what it is.
Senior linebacker Don Cherryââ'¬Â¦
On holding Maine to 1-of-4 on scoring chances in the red zone: We have this 'bend but don't break' mentality. Sooner or later a team is going to hit a play on you whether it is 20 yards or 50 yards, so no matter what we just have to buckle down. I think the reason why we are able to do such a good job in the red zone is because we are together and the defense has the offense's back. The whole team is together as a unit, so we know when they are in the red zone and are trying to score we need to stop them and get the offense out there.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Zach Bednarczykââ'¬Â¦
On running for 123 yards on 18 carries: I think with last week's game, with the performance I had with two turnovers, I was really focusing on not turning the ball over so I was trying to be more decisive. We knew during the week watching film that I would have to do some of that because of the defense that they have. They have such a great up-front down four linemen, but I knew I was going to have to do some of that.
Maine head coach Jack Cosgroveââ'¬Â¦
Opening statement: It was not a good night for us. I am disappointed in our play in the red zone and on offense. We played hard, but we didn't play a good football game.
On the red zone offense: We didn't execute. We didn't finish drives. That's a good team with a good defense. Don't get me wrong. We respect the hell out of Villanova. We have got to make the field goals when they're lined up. We have got to execute the throw and catch. We were 1-of-4 in the red zone. I am more concerned about or lack of productivity.
On Zach Bednarczyk: We missed tackles. On the touchdown run, he should have been sacked. I give him credit in that he makes people miss. I thought we were a better tackling team. This was probably as poor of a night of tackling that we have had all year.
Maine quarterback Drew Belcherââ'¬Â¦
On the red zone offense: We just didn't do a good job of executing. I take the blame for that. We have to be better in the red zone. We had some missed opportunities. I don't think I did a good job of being a leader.
Maine defensive end Trevor Batesââ'¬Â¦
On holding Villanova to 13 points: We missed a lot of tackles. We didn't do our job at times. We can definitely play better.
On Zach Bednarczyk: I just think we were undisciplined and not in our rush lanes. We didn't finish.
