Opening Statement
Great game, tough game. I am not a prognosticator but before the game I said if we hold them to under 21 I think we can win the game. Honestly I did say that, because I knew our defense would come up with a really big game. They are averaging 36 points a game and to hold them to under 21; and the blocked extra point was huge. The drive to score at the end is as good as it gets; 4th down Kevin (Gulyas) made a great catch in the end zone; Zach threw it right in there. And Gerard (Smith), our rookie kicker, with a little pressure right there bangs the thing threw. You have to love that. You can talk to him about what he was thinking but I am sure he was thinking keep your head down and follow through. Our defense played absolutely great. I think we had a couple turnovers and they had a couple turnovers. The critical one, even though there were a lot of critical plays in the game for us to cause a fumble at the kickoff of the second half and then we scored. Jarrett McClenton, the freshman, slot scored on the first play and that got us right back in the game. It gave us get impetus to continue to fight through.
Richmond is a really good team. I think it is the first really good team that we have beaten this year. We are getting stronger, we are getting better. We lost (Matt) Gudzak, who is a terrific running back for us, he really was our third tailback. Our first tailback broke his leg, Javon White, so we are playing with Gary Underwood. Who is injured, and we are really short at running back. But it was a team win, everyone played well. We needed an offense and a defense today in spots and I thought that the defense carried us.
Q.Here you are, with a shot to grab a share of the title and make the playoffs. That probably didn't seem possible six or eight weeks ago when John went down and then you lost two in a row.
A.Talley: "Yeah I think we are 4 out of 5 now, and I think the key for us right now is to be playing in significant games in the end of the year. Basically this was a significant game but we still have time till we get to JMU, obviously that will be the most significant game. If we can beat them then we would be deserving of a playoff spot. I know it will be a little bit of a late pick; that was a playoff game today, and that is what a playoff game looks like."
Q. Cam what is it about this defense? Especially in the last two weeks you have kicked it up a notch.
A.Cameron McCurry: "I think that we really came together as a unit. After the Penn game we looked ourselves in the mirror and realized that it is a team game a team defense. We need to lean on each other and stop trying to make individual plays and sacrifice for others on the team. I think we have really started to do that and play together."
Q.Kevin take us through the TD pass, a lot of chaos.
A.Kevin Gulyas: "They were in a cover two shell and we sent a guy in motion and then their safety just flew to the field. He was already out leverage and so it was just beating him to the inside. Zach threw a perfect pass and got the win."
Q. Was that the play call, the slant there?
A.Kevin Gulyas: "Yes it was. I did not think that the safety was going to fly out like he did. Zach had a front side play call but he saw that player fly out and he immediately looked backside. That was a really good heads up play by him."

Opening Statement
"I'm obviously very disappointed in the outcome. We really didn't play well enough. I felt like we should have won the game. That's the most frustrating thing to me. I told our football teams a few weeks ago that we're the hunted. That's what we became here a few weeks back we when controlled our destiny. We just have not responded how a championship team or championship program needs to respond. I take that responsibly upon myself. I'm responsible and accountable for everything that happens in my program. We did not play championship football today. We had way too many miscues, opportunities, and turnovers. It comes down to a block and an extra point. It's just as painful as it could be. I have unbelievable admiration for Andy Talley and his program. He's an all-timer. It was a very exciting game to watch. We needed a play at the end, and we just didn't get it. Their quarterback makes a really good play on fourth down which kind of puts the game in the books. We got one more opportunity to kind of salvage. We still have a lot on the line. We'll saddle up and give it our best shot."
Q: What does it say about Villanova to lose John Robertson and lose a few games early in the year and make a run to get back into this?
A: "It says a lot. They have an established program. They have an established system and philosophy of who they are and how they play. They have a coach who understands the league and the landscape. They don't overreact to any one game. You always have to look at your season in its entirety. I think as we all try to assess and the turning point of halfway mark it's irrelevant. My football team put ourselves in position to play meaningful games in November. I'm very happy about that. This is a young team. Our team may be a year ahead of where we thought we might be. We're still in position. You'll write the final chapter next week."
Richmond linebacker Omar Howard
Q: Can you talk about the last play when the slant seemed to have opened up?
A: "I think the time just got extended a little bit. It was pretty close to getting batted down. Their quarterback made a great pass and their guy caught it."
Richmond running back Jacobi Green
Q: You had a good game rushing, was the basis of the game plan today?
A: "Yes sir. They [Villanova] do a lot on defense. We came in thinking they would run the ball."
