June 25, 2015 VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Guard Darrun Hilliard was selected tonight by the Detroit Pistons with the 38th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 National Basketball Association Draft. He becomes the 24th Wildcats player to hear his named call in the NBA Draft since Villanova joined the BIG EAST in 1980.
"We're all incredibly happy for Darrun and his family," stated Wildcats head coach Jay Wright. "We're proud of everything he has accomplished on and off the court."
As a senior in 2014-15, Hilliard led a balanced Wildcats' attack in scoring at 14.3 p.p.g, highlighted by a 31-point outburst in a February 14 victory at Butler. The product of Bethlehem, Pa., was named first team All-BIG EAST and a second team All-American by The Sporting News. In addition, the Philadelphia Big Five tabbed him its Player of the Year.
Hilliard, who scored 1,511 points in his four seasons at VU (2111-15), becomes the first Wildcat to hear his name called in the draft since Dante Cunningham was chosen by Portland in the second round of the 2009 draft.
