Late Second Half Goals Push Providence Past Villanova, 3-1

The Villanova Field Hockey Team (1-8 overall, 0-2 BIG EAST) traveled to Providence to face off against the Providence Friars (7-2 overall, 2-0 BIG EAST) on Friday night in a BIG EAST conference match-up. Providence picked up the 3-1 win with their late second half performance scored off corners.

Providence recorded the first goal of the game at the 12 minute mark, off of their fourth penalty corner. Adrienne Houle tipped in the ball from Floor Rozemijer.

Villanova received its penalty corner at the minute of the game. Freshman Megan Vermeil scored her first collegiate goal off of a rebound. At the end of the half, the score was tied 1-1.

Villanova defense kept strong and saved multiple penalty corners. With just ten minutes left in the game, Providence's Houle tipped the ball in again for the Friars giving them the one goal lead. They finalized their win, with four minutes remaining off of a deflection.

The Wildcats finished with seven penalty corners, nine shots, six of which were on goal. Erika Miller made six saves, while allowing three goals. It was a fought hard game by the Wildcats until the very last minute.

Villanova returns to action this Sunday when they host the Towson Tigers in a nonconference match-up. The game is slated for noon in Conshohocken, Pa.
