VILLANOVA, Pa. – After suffering a tough loss against Georgetown last Saturday, the Villanova Wildcats (10-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) will look to rebound against St. John’s (10-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
The Wildcats have won seven of their last 10 matches entering Tuesday’s match, and will look to start a new winning streak at Jake Nevin Field House after Georgetown snapped a 680 day, 14-match winning streak on Villanova's home court.
St. John’s started the 2016 season winning their first seven matches, but have cooled off as of late, losing three of their last four contests. The Red Storm defeated Georgetown 3-1 in their first BIG EAST match of the season, but fell to both Xavier and Butler last weekend, 3-1.
St. John’s is 8-0 in three set matches, and have played tough in every match to date, taking at least one set in every single match this season. The St. John’s offense is led by a three-headed attack of Margherita Bianchin, Julia Cast, and Gaia Traballi, who all average over three kills per set.
Both Villanova and St. John’s rank first and second in the BIG EAST respectively in hitting percentage, with the Wildcats hitting .258 through 47 sets and the Red Storm hitting .255.
St. John’s boasts an international-friendly roster, sporting three student-athletes from Italy, one from Germany, one from Finland, and one from Canada.
Villanova owns the all-time series 15-12 and swept the Red Storm in both meetings last season.
The Wildcats will head to the Midwest this weekend after playing St. John’s, facing DePaul in Chicago on Friday and will then head to Milwaukee to take on Marquette on Saturday.
