April 25, 2018

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Women's Volleyball program has hired Meredith Schamun to join their coaching staff for the 2018 season. Schamun is joining the team after serving two years as an assistant coach at Tulane University. Her primary role will be working with the setters and the offense, as well as recruiting responsibilities among other duties.

Head Coach Josh Steinbach had this to say of his new assistant coach, "I'm excited to have Meredith join our staff and our program. She has a very high volleyball IQ and will be an excellent teacher for our players. I'm looking forward to having her work with the offensive side of the ball and run the recruiting in our office."

Prior to joining the coaching staff at Tulane, Schamun served as the director of volleyball operations at the University of Central Florida. While working at UCF, she also coached at the Orlando Volleyball Academy, the biggest volleyball club in the state of Florida.

Before she began her coaching career, Schamun spent time playing professionally overseas with GSGV Guibasco in Switzerland and VC Wiesbaden in Germany. While with VC Wiesbaden, her team earned the German League Bronze Medalist and German Cup Silver Medalist honors. Individually, she was awarded with her team's MVP honors. Her coaching career began after the conclusion of her professional career, when she coached 951 Elite in her hometown of Murrieta, California, followed by Prime Volleyball Club in Newport Beach.

Schamun played at the collegiate level for Rice University, where she was a highly decorated setter and four-year starter for the Owls. She was a two-time All-Conference USA First Team selection, AVCA All-Region, AVCA All-America honorable mention and was named the C-USA Setter of the Year in 2009. She led the Owls to one conference championship and two NCAA tournament births and finished her career as the all-time assists leader with 5,190.

Schamun is thrilled to get going here at Villanova, stating, "I want to give a big thank you to Josh and the entire Villanova program. I'm very excited to be here and I'm looking forward to doing big things to help this team be successful in the BIG EAST."
