Bats Quiet in Game One Loss to Chattanooga, Come Alive in Win Against Presbyterian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Madeira Beach, Fl. – In the first two games of the Madeira Beach Invitational, Villanova lost to Chattanooga before beating Presbyterian.

Chattanooga
In a pitching duel, Chattanooga was able to sneak past Villanova by a score of 2-1. Paige Rauch got the start on the mound for the Wildcats and went six innings of two run ball allowing just four hits. Her mound opponent Celie Hudson went a complete game allowing just one run.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Mocs got their first run on a solo homerun. They added another run in the sixth off of a double. Kalee Smith came in relief and pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to keep the game at 2-0.

Julia DaCosta got Villanova on the board in the seventh inning hitting a solo home run to right field. Two batters later, Lauren Hanna came up down a run with two outs. She hit what looked like a game tying home run, but it was caught at the wall.

Presbyterian
The bats came alive in game two and the game was over in six innings with an 8-0 victory. Anissa Amarillas threw a gem going the distance allowing just one hit, striking out four, and no walks.

In the first inning, Angela Giampolo scored from first on an error by the second baseman. Rauch came up for her second at bat of the game in the third inning and hit a high-flying home run to dead center.

Becky Ducar and Giampolo each added some insurance in the fourth inning with sac flies that would extend the lead to 4-0. DaCosta came up with a runner on third in the fifth inning and delivered with a single that scored Jordan Olivarez.

Rauch then blew the game wide open in the sixth inning with a three-run home run to right center that scored Giampolo and Ducar.

Eight runs were more than enough for Amarillas as she retired Presbyterian in the sixth inning to give the Cats their fifth win of the season. Delaney Switzer finished the game 3-3 with a run scored to boost her average to .300.

The Cats are back in action with two games tomorrow. The first one is against Florida A&M at 1:30 PM followed by FIU at 4:00 PM.
