Villanova's two assistant coaches will have another accolade to add to their resumes.
Second-year assistant
Karlie Heistand was named to the 2020 U.S. Women's National Team Roster. Heistand, who played her college career at The University of Connecticut, has been on the Development Team for the past three years.
The Hamburg, Pa., native was also a part of the U-19 and-21 US Women's National teams.
"I am super excited and grateful for this opportunity to be a part of the team," Heistand said.
First-year assistant coach
Carrera Lucas, who was a goalkeeper for the University of Virginia, was named to the 2020 USWNT National Development Squad.
This will be the Brookelandville, Md., native's third season competing for the team. Lucas has also competed with the U19 Junior National Team.
"I'm so pumped to enter another year of training and competing with the Development Team. Now that my routine doesn't involve padding up and playing as a college student-athlete 5 or 6 days per week, I've really experienced what it's like to miss playing the game more than ever before. Combine that with the experience I've had seeing the game through a new lens as a coach here at Villanova and I feel like my love for the sport has grown a lot and my motivation to push myself as a player has hit a new gear," Lucas said.
Head coach
Joanie Milhous was excited for the two members of her coaching staff.
"We are so proud of Karlie and Carrera and so excited to have these two amazingly talented players on our coaching staff and a part of the Villanova Field Hockey family. It is an exciting time for US Field Hockey," Milhous said.
