VILLANOVA, Pa. - For the first time this season, the Wildcats (2-1) will face opponents on back-to-back days. On Friday, Villanova will host local rival Drexel (2-4), before facing Lehigh (2-1) on Saturday night.
Scouting Drexel
Despite a slow start to the season which included being shutout 7-0 at Princeton and 5-0 at St. John's, the Dragons have responded by recording a 4-3 victory at Lehigh and a 6-1 win over Monmouth.
Drexel is looking to rebound against Villanova after losing 4-2 at Georgetown on Tuesday.
Last season, the Dragons defeated the Wildcats 6-1 in Philadelphia. Over the past five meetings between the schools, Drexel holds a 4-1 advantage. The last time Villanova defeated the Dragons was on the road in 2018.
In that match, then-sophomores Stefan Suarez, Dylan Flanagan and Tommy Mulflur all won their respective singles matches. Mulflur also helped the Wildcats win the doubles point.
Scouting Lehigh
Coming into the match, both the Mountain Hawks and the Wildcats hold a 2-1 record to start the 2020 season.
Lehigh's two wins were both shutouts at home, blanking Saint Francis and Siena 7-0. The team's lone loss came at home against Drexel on Feb. 8.
Last season, when the two teams met in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the Wildcats dominated by recording a 6-1 win.
Villanova won the doubles point in that match and then-junior Tyler Roth, then-senior Thomas Dodson, then-freshman Charlie Schuls, Flanagan and Mulflur won their singles matches.
The Wildcats own a 3-2 record over the Mountain Hawks over the last five seasons.
Lehigh's sophomore Zach Elliot was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Tuesday. He has gone 3-0 in singles play to start the season.

Villanova has won the doubles point in each of the first three matches.
