VILLANOVA, Pa. – Coming off a win at home against Lehigh last weekend, the Wildcats (3-2) will travel to Annapolis, Maryland, for two back-to-back matches against Navy (9-3) and then Morgan State (5-2) on Saturday.
This will be the first road match for Villanova since its Spring season opener against Delaware on Jan. 26.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
vs. Navy
The Midshipmen come into the matchup having played seven more Spring matches than the Wildcats. Navy has already recorded wins over teams that include Winthrop, Saint Joseph's and Georgetown, while sweeping Mount Saint Mary's (MD.) 7-0 in the fourth match of its Spring season.
The last time the Wildcats and the Midshipmen met was last season in Annapolis. In that match, Villanova defeated Navy 5-2, winning the doubles point to start off the day. Then-juniors Dylan Flanagan, Tommy Mulflur and Tyler Roth also won their respective single matches.
vs. Morgan State
The Bears have only lost two matches this Spring season, against Old Dominion and Army.
In the matchup last season against the Wildcats, Morgan State was victorious. The Bears won the match 6-1, with only Flanagan winning his singles match, earning the only point of the day for Villanova.
DOUBLES CAUSING TROUBLE
One of Villanova's biggest strengths so far this season has been its doubles play.
The Wildcats have not lost the doubles point in any of the team's first five Spring matches.
The team has also only lost one doubles set out of fifteen played against all five opponents.
