MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Junior
Jake McIntyre (Essex, Vt.) logged a new personal-best time in the 1650 Free en route to Villanova's lone event win at the WVU Invitational, finishing second the inside the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park on Saturday.
The Wildcats picked up a 1612.5 score throughout the three-day event to finish behind the hosting Mountaineers. All-told, they tallied six top-three performances with three bronze showings, two silver and one gold. On Saturday alone, Villanova saw five top-five swims with McIntyre being the only one in the top-three.
McIntyre's 15:30.20 swim in the 1650 free now stands as the second-best time in the event in program history, just behind John Davidson's time of 15:25.52 at the 2018 BIG EAST Championships.
Also notching a personal-best swim in the 1650 was
Charlie Hinckley (New York, N.Y.), finishing sixth (16:07.28).
Ethan Brown (West Hartford, Conn.) won the prelims of the 200 backstroke with a personal-best time of 1:47.86. He finished fifth in the A-finals (1:48.61), followed closely by
Aubrey Bowels (Richmond, Va.) in sixth (1:48.71) and
Carson Brockette (Dallas, Texas) in eighth (1:50.44).
Patrick Hemingway (Harrisburg, Pa.) reset his personal best in both of his 100 free swims on Saturday, going 45.86 in the prelims before touching the wall first in the B-final race for ninth-place (45.82).
Henry Halloran (Brookhaven, Ga.) and
Richard Nolan (Wilton, Conn.) both earned spots in the 200 Breaststroke A-finals, finishing fifth (2:05.77) and seventh (2:06.71), respectively.
In the 200 Fly,
Nolan Danus (Morris Plains, N.J.) touched the wall fourth in the A-final with a time of 1:50.44. The first to finish in the B-final was
Ryan Maher (Phoenixville, Pa.), resetting his personal-best time in the event with a 1:52.94 for ninth-place.
The lone relay of the day brought a pair of top-10 swims, led by the team of
Reid Hutcherson (Richmond, Va.), Maher,
Andrew Mitchill (Killingworth, Conn.) and Hemingway in fifth (3:05.40). Hinckley, Brown,
Jesse Marsh (Kingston, Jamaica) and Bowels were close behind in eighth (3:09.45)
Villanova returns home on Tuesday for a showdown with La Salle starting at 1 p.m. at the Villanova Swim Complex.
