New York, N.Y.- Villanova freshman middle blocker Maddie Barber was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after getting the start in the Wildcats opening weekend.

Barber averaged 1.88 kills per set in a 1-1 week for the Wildcats. In Villanova's five-set victory against Coppin State, Barber led VU tied for match high in kills with 14. Her performances against Coppin State also included a .571 attack percentage, which was a BIG EAST match high so far this season. In the three-set loss to No. 19 Pittsburgh, Barber registered a kill, two blocks and two digs.

Villanova will open BIG EAST play this weekend when they travel to St. John's.  The Red Storm and Wildcats will face off on Friday and Saturday night with both matches starting at 7:00 P.M.
