MONTREAL, Quebec—Villanova thrower
Jul Thomson (Otterville, Ont.) wrapped up a great weekend of competition on Sunday morning with a sixth place finish in the discus at the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Track and Field Trials held at Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard in Montreal. Thomson threw for 41.26 meters in her second performance in three days. Earlier in the weekend she had placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.24 meters on Friday night.
Thomson competed for Brantford Track and Field Club and earned her spot at the national championships after extending her personal best mark in the discus to 46.67 meters during the collegiate season this spring. She recorded six throws in Friday's competition and recorded the mark of 41.26 meters on her first attempt of the day. Later in the competition she registered marks of 38.17 meters and 40.80 meters on her final two throws.
The 2020-21 collegiate campaign was Thomson's first at Villanova as a graduate transfer from Dartmouth, where she played basketball for one year and was a three-year member of the track & field team. She recorded a personal best mark of 14.23 meters in the shot put at the Penn Twilight meet on May 1 and is ranked fourth in the Wildcats record book in the shot put. She also ranks fifth in school history in the discus with a personal best mark of 46.67 meters which came at the BIG EAST Championships.
