Field Hockey Downed By Penn 2-0

Conshohocken, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats were defeated by the Penn Quakers 2-0 this afternoon. Villanova falls to 2-4 after losing their third straight game, while Penn improved their record to 2-2.

The Wildcats allowed an early first quarter goal at the 5:59 mark, allowing Penn to jump up 1-0. From this point, Penn never seized momentum, holding Villanova to only four total shots, with three on goal. The Quakers added their second goal three minutes into the second quarter, which proved to be too much for Villanova.

For Villanova, Meghan Mitchell and Sabine de Ruijter were the only players able to record a shot on goal, with two and one respectively. Katie Capalbo also was able to fire off the only other shot for the team.

Late in the fourth quarter, de Ruijter recorded the team's first defensive save, after Villanova decided to pull their goalkeeper with two minutes remaining.  Jordan McGinley had two saves in the contest.

Villanova will remain home for their next two games, first hosting Providence on Friday, September 17 at 5 PM.
