Box Score VILLANOVA – After a change in schedule due to the inclement weather, Villanova dove into a doubleheader with No. 21 Harvard, falling 16-4 in game two at the Villanova Swim Complex Saturday.
Villanova (0-2) was held scoreless in two periods of action in the nightcap with Harvard (2-0).
Joia McKinney led the Wildcats with two goals in the loss, both of those coming on her lone shot attempts.
Emily McKenzie and
Kaysie Stuba led the Wildcats with five shots each.
Villanova was held scoreless in the first quarter, facing a 3-0 deficit. The shot tally was close in the opening period, favoring Harvard, 7-6.
Evan Tingler scored a pair of goals near the middle of the second quarter to extend the Crimson lead to 6-0. Villanova did not get on the board until the 2:29 mark of the second when
Emily Morrissey scored on a powerplay, cutting the deficit to 6-1. Harvard closed the period on a 3-0 run after, leaving the score at 9-1 by halftime.
Villanova trailed in shots through the first two periods, 18-11.
Harvard outscored the 'Cats 5-0 in the third period with Villanova sending just three shots to Harvard's 10.
In the fourth,
Amanda Rice connected on a shot to cut the lead the Crimson lead, 15-2. Her goal was quickly answered by Harvard's Sasha Constandse. McKinney added to the score line for Villanova at the 3:15 mark, converting the powerplay to make it 16-3. She added on her second goal with 10 seconds remaining.
Overall, Villanova was outshot 36-23. Goalie
Abigail Shelby made 10 saves throughout the contest with Harvard's Zoe Barnes being called upon for six saves and a steal.
Tingler and Erin Kim led Harvard with three goals each. Tingler led everyone in the pool with 10 shot attempts and added three assists for six points.
Villanova is set to take on Iona to close out the first day of competition at 3:30 p.m.
