Kaysie Stuba scored a season-high five goals as Villanova fell to No. 22 Harvard, 15-7, to open its time at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday at the Denunzio Pool.
Stuba was one of three Wildcats to score for Villanova (0-5), being joined by
Allie Hansen and
Stella Byles who each netted a goal
. This is the third loss that Villanova has faced in contests with Harvard (6-1) this season.
The 'Cats were outscored 3-1 in the first quarter with Stuba stopping the Crimson streak with nearly a minute to play in the frame. Harvard opened the second with a five-goal scoring outburst. Stuba stopped the streak, moving the nets with 56 seconds remaining in the half, making it an 8-2 game. Harvard got one back as time expired, leaving the contest at 9-2 at the break.
Stuba's third goal of the game came at the 4:46 mark of the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 11-3. Harvard pushed four more goals into the back of the net to turn it into a 15-3 score before the fourth.
Villanova held Harvard scoreless in the final frame. Byles connected with just under seven minutes left to play before Stubba tacked on another at the 6:00 mark. Hansen and Stubba stepped in with under five minutes remaining to close out the scoring.
Byles and Hansen won both of their sprints throughout the game. In net,
Abigail Shelby made four saves, one of those on a penalty attempt.
Dany Zapata, Quinne Pursell and Brook Hourigan all scored three goals for the Crimson, marking team-highs in the game.
The Invitational rolls on Sunday with two more games for Villanova. The Wildcats are set to start their day at 9:15 a.m. against Mount St. Mary's before facing Saint Francis at 3:30 p.m.
