ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Villanova (1-4) wrapped up two days of competition at the Tose Family Tennis Center with a 7-0 loss to Navy (11-3) on Sunday afternoon. The host Midshipmen won the three doubles matches to start the day before sweeping the singles matches.
Sophomore
Noah Winton (Columbia, Mo.) extended his match to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles in one of the closer matches of the day. He won his opening set against Cy McLeod, 7-5, before McLeod tied the match with a 6-2 win in the second set and won a tiebreaker (9-7) to close out the match.
In other singles matches, senior
Matthew Jones (Dallas, Texas) was narrowly defeated in the No. 4 singles match by Sasha Panyan in a 6-3, 7-5 decision. Jones and freshman
Trey Fourticq (Los Angeles, Calif.) each won three games in their opening set, with Fourticq falling to Gavin Seagraves (6-3, 6-0) at No. 2 singles.
Earlier in the day, Fourticq and sophomore
Anthony Prokurat (Manalapan, N.J.) played a close match at No. 2 doubles where they were defeated by Jack McBride and Derrick Thompson in a 7-5 decision.
Villanova hosts Coppin State this coming Friday at 6:15 p.m. at the Bryn Mawr Racquet Club before heading to California during Spring Break.
