Villanova, Pa.- The Villanova Wildcats will travel to Providence to take on the Brown Bears on Tuesday. First faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 P.M. and can be seen on ESPN+.
Matchup History: Tuesday marks the fifth meeting between the Wildcats and Bears with both teams winning two of the previous games. Villanova edged out Brown in the last game on March 25
th, 2019, by a final of 10-9. Brown defeated Villanova the previous year 12-9.
A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats are coming off a 16-9 win against Fairfield on Saturday afternoon. In the home opener
Luke Keating led the Wildcats offense with four goals and one assist for five points while
Will Vitton finished with 12 saves. Villanova is now 2-1 on the season with their other win coming in the season opener at Penn State.
Villanova's Offense: Villanova has three players with double digit points through three games, Keating with 14,
Patrick Daly has 13, and
Matt Campbell has 11. Daly leads the team in goals with 12 while Keating has a team high six assists. Campbell had netted seven goals and dished out four assists so far this season. Six other Wildcats have netted goals this season including
Matt Licata who scored his first career goal on Saturday vs. the Stags.
Villanova's Defense: Vitton picked up his second win of the season in goal on Saturday when he finished with 12 saves, five of those came in the final quarter. The senior this season has 32 saves and a 13.45 goals against average in 165 minutes.
Justin Coppola had a successful day at faceoff against Fairfield winning 18 of 27 (.667) with a game high 13 ground balls.
Reid Colwell and
Brody LaPorte have been having an impact on the Wildcats close defense, both have double digit ground balls and average one caused turnover a game.
A Look at Brown: The Bears are 2-1 entering Tuesday's game and are coming off a 12-11 win at home against Vermont. Brown defeated Quinnipiac to open the season and then fell at North Caroline during a midweek game. Junior Devon McLane and senior Darian Cook lead the attack for Brown. McLane has 11 goals this season along with seven assists while Cook has nine goals and the same amount of assists. Connor Theriault has been the starting keeper for Brown over the last two games and has a .522 save percentage along with a 12.80 goals against average.
