Taryn Ashby Opened Up Season in the Javelin at Texas Relays on Friday Morning

Villanova thrower finished 12th in her section with a distance of 43.70 meters

AUSTIN, Texas—Graduate thrower Taryn Ashby (Pittston, Pa.) opened her 2022 season on Friday morning during competition on the third day of the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. She competed in the A section of the javelin and threw for a distance of 43.70 meters in her first meet since the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. last Spring.

Ashby is the school record holder in the javelin with the current implement which was introduced before the 1999 season. She owns eight of the top 10 marks in the Villanova record book since then, and Friday's outing was a chance to begin building up for the bulk of the competition season yet to come. She and fellow graduate thrower Sade Meeks (North Babylon, N.Y.) were in action for the Wildcats in Texas over the past two days.

In Friday morning's competition, Ashby threw for the mark of 43.70 meters on her second of three attempts and placed 12th in a section which featured several of the nation's top javelin throwers. Ashby's current school record of 50.69 meters was set at the UNF Invite in Jacksonville last season. She has set a new Villanova standard in the javelin four times during her collegiate career.
