The Villanova Golf team will start the spring portion of the 2022 season on Monday, in Southern Pines, North Carolina at the Ross Collegiate Classic. The two-day tournament, hosted by George Mason, will be played at Mid Pines Golf Club.
The 6633 yard, par-72 course will see 17 teams play through the early part of the week: host George Mason, UConn, Elon, George Washington, Ohio U., Old Dominion, Princeton, Richmond, William and Mary, St. Bonaventure, St. John's, Saint Joseph's, Towson, Winthrop, Loyola (MD), Seton Hall and Villanova.
Villanova will feature a lineup of
Peter Weaver,
Matthew Copeland,
Noah Peck,
Luke Alexander,
Vimal Alokam and
Jonathan Elkins, who will compete as an individual.
In the fall, the Wildcats were led by the sophomore Weaver, who had a 72-stroke average over all six tournaments. Weaver also won his first collegiate tournament, after shooting 4-under par at the Doc Gimmler in September.
As a team, Villanova also set a program record after their performance at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, for their lowest overall score for a 54 hole tournament. After shooting even their first two rounds, a final round of -5 (279) pushed the team into fourth place. The graduate transfer Copeland led the 'Cats finishing fourth individually, at 6-under par.
This will be the first of five tournaments for Villanova, before they compete in the BIG EAST Championships in late April.
