The doubles matches to open the day were close ones, with Klopfer and Brogan scoring a 7-5 win over Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen. In the No. 3 doubles match, the duo of junior
Caitlin Fisher (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior
Olivia Kapp (Milton, Ga.) were defeated by the same 7-5 margin. The difference in the competition for the doubles point came down to the No. 2 match in which senior
Sabina Grigorian (Atlanta, Ga.) and freshman
Valieriia Kornieva (Dnipro, Ukraine) fell to Lalita Devarakonda and Camila Ordonez by a 6-2 margin.
Klopfer was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 1 singles over Mouna Bouzgarrou to improve to 8-2 overall on the season and 7-1 in dual matches. Her four-match winning streak began with a victory over Belmont on March 3, while Klopfer has also beaten opponents from Drexel, Seton Hall and now the Red Storm to pace the Wildcats on the season. The closest of the remaining singles matches on Friday came in the third spot where Fisher narrowly lost a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Nielsen.
Friday's match was the first of two on the weekend for Villanova, which returns home and will host Loyola (Md.) on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
