Award honors nation's top point guard

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Villanova's Collin Gillespie is the 2022 recipient of the Bob Cousy Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Saturday afternoon on ESPN College GameDay.

Gillespie is the second Wildcat to earn the honor since the award's formation in 2003-04, joining former teammate Jalen Brunson (2018) as a winner.

The product of Archbishop Wood High School helped guide the Wildcats (30-7 overall) to a BIG EAST Tournament title and a spot in today's NCAA Final Four opposite Kansas. Gillespie averages 34.2 minutes, 15.6 points, and 3.9 rebounds per game in a campaign that also saw him named a Third Team Associated Press All-American and the BIG EAST Player of the Year.

The Wildcats and Jayhawks will meet at 6:09 p.m. eastern in the first game of the NCAA Final Four doubleheader at Caeser's Superdome here today.
