CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Graduate thrower
Sade Meeks (North Babylon, N.Y.) recorded the seventh-longest hammer throw in school history with a mark of 52.91 meters at the Virginia Challenge on Thursday night. Meeks is the school record holder in the hammer and now holds three of the top seven marks in the Villanova record book. She kicked off three days of competition for the Wildcats at Lannigan Field this weekend.
Meeks competed in the second of two flights in the hammer and recorded the mark of 52.91 meters on her first of three attempts. Her school record mark of 59.38 meters came earlier this month at the Florida Relays and was the second time this season Meeks set a new Villanova standard in the event. She originally broke a record that had stood for 21 years one week earlier at the Texas Relays. Meeks is the Wildcats all-time record holder in the shot put, the weight throw and the hammer.
Action picks back up for Villanova on Friday morning with competition in women's javelin.
