Kaysie Stuba made numerous record book moves as Villanova sailed to a 13-4 victory over Siena at the Villanova Swim Complex on Sunday morning.
The senior racked up a five-point outing with two assists and a team-high three goals. She now has 354 career points, tying her for second-most in team history. She also moves up the program's single-season records list, now holding the most points (128), most shots (177) and the second-most goals (81), just three away from overtaking first.
Seven different Wildcats found the back of the net with Villanova (17-12, 6-4 MAAC) scoring 13 goals on 15 shot attempts, seven of those goals coming in the third quarter alone. The defense once again stood its ground, holding Siena (4-18, 1-8 MAAC) just on goal in the first half after both teams went without a goal in the second quarter.
Starting in net for the first time this season,
Sarah Shaw made 10 saves in the win, also tacking on an assist.
Isabel Herbst netted the first goal of the contest just under two minutes in but was followed by a quick answer from Siena's Georgia Vargas.
Stella Byles started a minute-long sequence of scoring with a powerplay goal at the 3:53 mark with Stuba grabbing her first of the day, give the 'Cats a 3-1 lead through the first that stood to the halftime break.
A penalty on Siena 19 seconds into the second half put the ball in Stuba's hands for a five-meter attempt to open up the 6-0 scoring bonanza for the Wildcats.
Joia McKinney and
Amanda Rice pushed the lead to 6-1 less than two minutes into the period. Stuba's hat trick came at the 4:57 mark of the third with Herbst adding on another soon after followed by one from
Emily McKenzie with under two minutes left in the frame. Vargas ended the Villanova run in the final 30 seconds to cut Siena's deficit to 9-2 but McKenzie rocketed another in late for a 10-2 score heading to the fourth.
Vargas got another goal back for the Saints early in the stanza before another penalty whistle was blown toward Siena. Byles took the five-meter attempt this time, successfully connecting to make it an eight-goal lead. McKinney and
Lauren Picard scored two of the final three goals of the contest to solidify the win.
The final game of the weekend is set for 3 p.m. against Marist.
