Villanova, Pa. - Volleyball head coach
Josh Steinbach announced the 2022 schedule on Monday afternoon. The Wildcats will compete in four tournaments to being the season, followed by 18 conference matches through the middle of November.
To open the season, Villanova will travel to Los Angeles, California to compete in the Trojan Invitational hosted by USC. A doubleheader will be played on Friday August 26, with the first match against Colgate at 1:00 p.m. (10:00 a.m. Pacific), followed by a meeting with UMBC at 8:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. Pacific). Villanova will take on the host USC at 10:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. Pacific) on Saturday, August 27.
The Wildcats will return home for their second tournament of the season, as they will host the Villanova Classic. The three-day event will begin on Friday September 2, with Villanova facing off against Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. in Jake Nevin Field House. On Saturday, two Wildcats will compete as the University of New Hampshire travels to the main line for a 5:00 p.m. contest. The final match for Villanova will be against Fairfield on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Each of the next two weeks will see the Wildcats travel out of state for tournaments. First the Dayton Invitational in Ohio will take place beginning on September 9. A doubleheader will see Villanova take on Missouri State at 11 a.m. and the host Dayton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will conclude their stay in Dayton with a match against Illinois at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday 10. One week later, the team will travel to New Haven, Connecticut for the Yale Invitational. Villanova will first match up against the host Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday September 16. Following this, two games on Saturday will be played against Sacred Heart (11:00 a.m.) and Fordham (5:00 p.m.).
Villanova will begin BIG EAST play on September 23 as they travel to Xavier for an 8:00 PM start time. Two days later, on the 25, the team will travel to Creighton for a 2:00 PM (1:00 PM Central) start.
Their first home match in over two weeks will see St. John's compete in Jake Nevin Field House at 7:00 p.m. on Friday September 30. Following this home match, Villanova will also host Seton Hall one day later, on October 1 at 7:00 p.m.
Four consecutive road matches have Villanova traveling to Georgetown (Oct. 5, 5:00 p.m.), Butler (Oct. 9, 1:00 p.m.), UConn (Oct. 13, 7:00 p.m.) and Providence (Oct. 15, 4:00 p.m.) in the first two weeks of October.
Following the four-game road stand are four straight home matches to close out the month of October. Beginning with Creighton on October 21 (7:00 p.m.) and Xavier on October 22 (7:00 p.m.), followed by Providence on October 28 (5:00 p.m.) and UConn on October 29 (7:00 p.m.).
November sees Villanova go on two more road trips and one home series before the BIG EAST Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. To begin the month, the 'Cats will travel to DePaul (Nov. 4, 8:00 p.m. [7:00 Central]) and Marquette (Nov. 5, 7:00 p.m. [6:00 Central]) for their only matches against both conference opponents on the season. Georgetown (Nov. 10, 7:00 p.m.) and Butler (Nov. 12, 7:00 p.m.) will travel to Villanova before the team ends the season with road games against Seton Hall (Nov. 18, 6:00 p.m.) and St. John's (Nov. 19, 5:00 p.m.).
