MERION, Pa.- Multiple teams of Wildcats make it to the finals but freshman
Tighe Brunetti takes the lone victory for Villanova in the Singles Flight 2 Championship bracket.

The three days of competition kicked off on Friday September 23 and was split into two doubles flight brackets and four singles flight brackets. Each bracket held 16 teams or singular players to play for the championship bracket or consolation bracket victory. All flights followed this format other than flight 4 of singles which included 20 individual players opposed to 16.

The Wildcats were among multiple teams to participate in the series hosted by Saint Joseph's University also including the University of Delaware, Jefferson University, Marist College, Morgan State University, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
On day one of the Saint Joseph's Invitational, the first round resulted in two team of doubles and six matches of singles to prove successful for the Wildcats.

Tighe Brunetti and sophomore
Trey Fourticq (flight 1) and veteran duo of senior
Will Gatti and junior
Ryan Nguyen (flight 2) both advanced to the second round of the championship bracket. Brunetti and Fourticq advanced in a 6-3 win over Saint Joseph's team Justas Agbo and Nassim Fenjiro. Gatti and Nguyen advanced in a 6-1 win over Morgan State's Martial Kawunde/Rhajzon.

Fourticq advanced to round two of the flight 1 championship bracket with a win over Saint Joseph's Justas Agbo. Fourticq was ahead in the first set 5-1 when Agbo retired from the match.

In singles flight 2 Brunetti was victorious over Lehigh's Jordan Paul with some room in a 6-1, 6-3 win. Brunetti advanced to round two of the championship bracket.

In singles flight 4 sophomore
Lukas Choi took the win over Lehigh's David Missry in a 6-2, 6-3 victory advancing him to round two of the championship bracket. Junior
Noah Winton first seed, junior
Anthony Prokurat third seed, and Gatti eighth seed, all advanced to the second round of play in the championship bracket on a bye.

Josh Robinson and Winton, fell in flight 1 of doubles to Morgan States Bertin Karenzi/Sebastian Lopez in a 6-3 loss, moving over to the round two of the consolation bracket. Fellow doubles teams of freshman

Alex Kim also moved over to the round 2 of the consolation bracket. Gordon and Suarez were bested by Delaware's Nicholas Gore/Tobey Lock (third seeded) in a 6-0 loss. Choi and Kim fell to Jefferson's Hannibal Borg/Jules Thibault in a 6-2 loss.

Robinson moved over to round two of the consolation bracket in flight 1 singles after a tough battle against Saint Joseph's Alejandro Vedri in a close 7-6 (0), 7-5 loss.

Gordon moved over to round two of the consolation bracket as well over in flight 2 singles after a 7-6 (7), 6-3 loss to NJIT's Josh Smith.

A tough start in flight 3 singles as all Villanova teams were moved over to round two of the consolation bracket. Kim had a close battle with Lehigh's Wyeth Anzilotti, ultimately falling after being sent into a tie breaker (6-4, 4-6, 10-6 (STB)). Suarez was defeated by Saint Joseph's Mark Rubin in a 7-5, 6-3 matchup. Nguyen was also bested by Lehigh's Aristotelis Bezianis in a 7-5, 6-3 loss.

Only a couple matches were played to start the second round of play as the first day came to an end. Of the few matches completed, Brunetti and Fourticq advanced to the third round of the championship bracket in a win over NJIT's three seeded Nejc Skorjanc/Josh Smith in a 6-4 win.

For flight 4 singles, Winton (first seed) took on Jefferson's William Levasseur and defeated him in a 6-3, 7-6 (4) tie breaker win. Gatti (eighth seed) also advanced to the third round of the championship bracket in flight 4 singles by defeating NJIT's Adrian Tudor in a 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 (STB) win.

Choi and Prokurat (fourth seed) were moved over to the consolation bracket both fighting hard against their opponents, Choi versus Delaware's Nicholas Gore (fourth seed) falling in a 7-5, 7-5 loss, and Prokurat (fourth seed) versus Saint Joseph's Eli Gan-Dy ultimately falling in a 7-6 (5), 1-6, 10-8 (STB) tie breaker loss.

Day two sent some Wildcats further into the third round of both brackets. In doubles flight 1 it was determined on day one that Brunetti and Fourticq would advance to the third round in the championship bracket. As for Robinson and Winton, their time on the court came to an end for the tournament as they fell to Lehigh's team of Marc Bleckman and Matt Kleiman in a 6-2 loss.

In doubles flight 2, Gatti and Nguyen took the win against fourth seeded Wyeth Anzilotti/Michael Bukhalo from Lehigh in a 6-2 victory moving them forward on to the third round of the championship bracket. Gordon and Suarez joined their fellow Wildcats moving on to the third round in the consolation bracket with a win over Saint Joseph's Jack Campbell and Mark Rubin in a 6-1 sweep. Unfortunately for the last Wildcat team of Choi and Kim, they were sent packing after a 6-2 defeat by NJIT's secondn seeded Oscar Callo von Platen/Ashwin Kanetkar.

Both Wildcat teams were knocked out of their respective brackets in round two of flight 1 singles. Fourticq faced off against NJIT's Pablo Perez Ramos in the championship bracket and fell in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. Robinson who was competing in round two of the consolation bracket also met his match falling to another NJIT player, Amine El Kholti in an 8-2 loss.

The lone Wildcat in the championship bracket in flight 2 singles, Brunetti, advanced to the third round of the competition after dethroning the first seeded Pavel Petrov from NJIT in a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Gordon joined his teammate in advancing to the third round but on the consolation side of the bracket after an 8-2 win over Marist's Nick Suhanitski.

In the flight 3 singles consolation bracket three Villanova players competed with one moving onto the third round of play. Kim was victorious over Marist's Pablo Flores in a 8-5 win. Suarez and Nguyen were sent packing after falling to their opponents, with Suarez losing to Morgan State's Rhajzon Rankins in an 8-4 loss, and Nguyen falling to Jefferson's Hannibal Borg in a close 8-6 battle.

In flight 4 of singles Winton (first seed) advanced to the fourth round in the championship bracket with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's Jack Campbell. Gatti who also competed in the championship bracket was sent home early by Lehigh's second seeded Steven Nazaroff in a tough 2-6, 6-1, 10-3 (STB) loss. In the consolation bracket, Prokurat (third seed) joined teammate Gatti with his time on the court cut short after an 8-3 loss to Lehigh's Luke Donovan

Moving onto the third round of the championship bracket in flight 1 doubles was the team of Brunetti and Fourticq who went head-to-head against NJIT's Amine El Kholti and Pablo Perez Ramos just falling short in a 6-4 loss.

In the doubles flight 2 championship bracket the duo of Gatti and Nguyen took the 6-2 win over Jefferson's Hannibal Borg and Jules Thibault which advanced them into the final round of play. In the consolation bracket, Gordon and Suarez followed their teammates footsteps with a 6-3 win over another Jefferson team of Mario Antonio and Enrique Soto Ballester moving them onto the final round of the bracket.

Brunetti took the 6-1,6-1 win over fourth seeded Jeremy Learner from Lehigh in the flight 2 singles championship bracket advancing him to the finals. Over in the consolation bracket Gordon was bested by third seeded Tobey Lock from Delaware in an 8-3 loss.

The last Wildcat standing in flight 3 singles in the consolation bracket, Kim, defeated Morgan State's Rhajzon Rankins in an 8-5 victory moving him into the finals in his bracket.

In flight 4 singles in the championship bracket, first seeded Winton came up short after a strong fight against fourth seeded Nicholas Gore of Delaware in a 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 (STB) loss.

Day three was the last day of play featuring the final matches to be played to determine winners in their brackets. Both teams of flight 2 doubles ultimately fell in the finals. Gatti and Nguyen competed in the championship bracket finals defeated by Marist's Alex Thompson and Carlos Vasquez in a very close 7-5 match. In the consolation bracket Gordon and Suarez were defeated by NJIT's second seeded team of Oscar Callo von Platen and Ashwin Kanetkar in a 6-3 loss.

In flight 3 of the singles consolation bracket Kim faced off against Jefferson's Hannibal Borg and battled until the end ultimately being defeated in a 8-2 loss.
The freshman from West Port, Connecticut,
Tighe Brunetti, had a standout performance and concluded his time on the court with a big win in the flight 2 singles championship bracket finals. Brunetti took on Jefferson's Germán López Andújar taking the victory in a 7-5 win with López Andújar retiring in the end.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday October 1 at Lehigh for a quick two-day tournament.
