VILLANOVA, Pa. – A busy April of racing continues for Villanova this week as the Wildcats head down to Fairfax Station, Va. for Sunday's George Mason Invitational at Sandy Run Regional Park.
The Wildcats are making their fifth consecutive appearance in the annual regatta. Last year's trip was a successful one that saw all four Villanova boats earn spots in the Grand Finals, including a win for the Varsity Eight boat that won with a time of 6:30.5.
Villanova will be one of 11 teams in the field, joining George Mason, Loyola, Dayton, Duquesne, Jacksonville, George Washington, West Virginia, Saint Joseph's and fellow CAA sides Delaware and Eastern Michigan. Four boats will compete in the regatta for Villanova, sending out two eights and two fours. Each race will feature two heats that will pave the way for afternoon finals.
The 2V4 will be the first boar in the water for Villanova, competing in the first heat at 10 a.m. followed by the V4 in the first heat at 10:20 a.m. The first eight boat in the water for Villanova will be the 2V8 in the first heat at 10:50 a.m. The V8 will close out the morning heats in the event's second at 11:20 a.m. The top two boats in each heat will move on to the afternoon's Grand Finals with the first and second next fastest times also moving on. The others will compete in the Petite Finals. Those afternoon finals are set to begin at 1 p.m.
